Sunny Beach is the biggest and sunniest Bulgarian coastal resort, with the longest and widest beach strip, with hotels spread along the beach and among the dunes.
In medieval times, the bay situated between Cape Emine and Nessebar had two large fresh water wells; residents earned a living by selling drinking water to Nessebar, which had none of its own. This area is now known as Sunny Beach, the largest Bulgarian beach resort, generally regarded as the best on the coast.
The resort lies only 22 miles north of the city of Burgas, stretching along a beautiful semicircular bay facing east, closed to the north by the descending ridges of the Balkan Range, thus blending sea and mountain in perfect harmony. Lying to the south is the small peninsula on which the ancient town of Nessebar is located - an architectural and historic monument of Bulgarian and world culture. Accessibility is very good with regular boat and bus connections to Burgas and Varna (60 miles). Charter flights from and to the UK and Germany are operated by the Burgas International Airport during the summer season.
Sunny Beach features a 4-mile long expanse of fine golden sand, warm sea with a gently sloping, sandy bottom and approximately 1,700 hours of sunshine from May to October, plenty of ozone and ultraviolet rays, along with the fresh breeze. The average daily temperature in summer is 27°C. The resort was awarded the prestigious Blue Flag International prize for proven ecological advantages.
Entertainment is very varied and available to all age groups. There is a real abundance of pubs, restaurants, cafes, bars, discos and casinos; as well as numerous sports and leisure facilities offering all kinds of water sports, hiking, horse riding, archery, mini-golf, roller and in-line skating, bowling, tennis, bicycling, wall climbing, beach volleyball etc.
To soothe sore muscles from all that physical activity several hotels offer mineral water spa treatment centres. Trips to historic and scenic spots throughout Bulgaria and internationally (for example, overnight boat trips to Istanbul) can be arranged through local travel services.
Sunny Beach is living through a transformation that started in 2000. The importance and reputation of the resort have grown sharply, especially among Western tourists. Investments in high class accommodation have moved in parallel, with some 500 million euros being invested in Sunny Beach in the last four years. As a result the resort has cemented its top place as a tourist destination in Bulgaria. The combination of warm sea, fine sand, sunny weather and affordable prices ensure excellent prospects for the future as an increasing number of people are switching from the Spanish Costas and the French Riviera to more exotic destinations like this Bulgarian pearl.
Due to its unique location, modern infrastructure and resort facilities Sunny Beach is currently the best place to invest in on the Bulgarian coast. It has seen a 70-90% increase in property prices over the past 2 years.
